Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
