Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
