LeBron James Set to Miss Start of National Basketball Association Campaign due to Sciatic Nerve Pain.
James started his professional journey with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003.
LeBron James will be absent for up to four weeks and is confirmed to miss the beginning of the NBA season with sciatic issues, Lakers have confirmed.
The player, forty, inked a fresh deal with the Los Angeles Lakers in June and is set to become the first player to play across 23 distinct seasons.
Sciatica refers to discomfort in the sciatic nerve that goes down the spine and through the leg.
James has not taken part in preseason and did not play in the games against the Golden State and the Phoenix Suns earlier this month as a result of the nerve issue.
The veteran will likely miss for each of the five of the Lakers' games in October, which includes the opening match against the Warriors.
The star, the highest points scorer in history, has never previously missed the opening of the NBA year in his two-decade-plus career.
His tally of over 1,500 matches participated in is just 50 short than overtaking former Boston star Robert Parish's NBA record.
The four-time NBA champion featured in 70 of the team's 82 games last season and was active for 71 matches in the year before.
The previous season, LeBron James averaged over 24 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game and came in sixth in the MVP award vote.
The Lakers made it to the play-offs in last season but were defeated in five games against the Timberwolves in the first round.
