The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
